- Lenovo Mobile recently launched the world's first OPhones based on China's homegrown TD-SCDMA technology (Time Division-Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) in China, according to a press release by Lenovo Mobile on December 14. The phone, codenamed Lenovo O1, will feature Spreadtrum's TD-SCDMA/HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access)/GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications)/EDGE (Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution) baseband chip, codenamed SC8800S, and run on China Mobile's OPhone OS.

 

- Eleven customized TD-SCDMA phone models manufactured by nine companies are currently available in the Chinese market, the Sina Tech News reported on December 17. Nine phone makers include ZTE, Huawei, Motorola, Samsung, LG, Dopod, Hisense, Yulong Coolpad, and New Postcom. Of the eleven TD-SCDMA phones, six models target high-end customers and five models priced at around 1,000 RMB (US$147.1) are value-line phones. Of the total 600 million RMB (US$88.2 million; US$1 = 6.8 RMB) that China Mobile promised to spend on financing mobile phone makers' TD-SCDMA R&D, these eleven TD-SCDMA phone models have snatched 290 million RMB (US$ 42.6 million), according again to Sina Tech News.

 

- Following its announcement that the company had completed and passed TD-LTE tests initiated by China's MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology), Motorola announced that the company will have a TD-LTE (TD-Long Term Evolution) commercial trial network ready by year-end 2009, the Sina Tech News reported on December 16. Motorola is currently selecting locations to conduct TD-LTE commercial trials in Beijing's suburb areas and plans to deploy TD-LTE trial networks in three major Chinese cities, which are yet to be finalized.
